Collaboration set to open "African Diaspora" exhibition in Palm Beach

The African diaspora was about movement, the movement of Africans and their descendants to places throughout the world. And with the now third chapter of this exhibition, Collaboration has traveled into the gallery space of the Center for Creative Education

“I have been an art educator for 27 years. 12 of those years have been with CCE.  Each year we have had a different goal. Year 1 was at the Armory Art Center. That goal was to create a conversation within the community of Palm Beach County. We had a diverse group of people who wanted to see what the buzz was about.  It was a “different” show. Thought there was a similar one 10 years prior at the same venue. We wanted to make black art more than just trendy.” Stated Trina Slade-Burks

She continued on to say while discussing the benefits of collaborating with the CCE “Year 2 was at Palm Beach State. The goal was to educate on a collegiate level and engage the art students and their professors to think outside the box. With CCE, it is a few things. CCE is an arts & education program for children so we want to engage the children & their parents. In addition, we want to challenge the staff at CCE to connect with the community.  We do outreach in at risk communities but that is the
children’s voice. I want the Staff, the teaching artists, the board members and the patrons and the guest to grasp what is really outside the four walls of that building.  The blood, sweat and tears that all these artists are expressing in their work is the real world.  To disconnect from the TV’s & the phones & look at what these talented people are really saying.”

Many in Palm Beach County’s communities have yet to experience a piece of art & culture that the married dynamic art duo of Anthony & Trina Slade-Burks intend to present. Anthony, a renowned artist in his own right expressed his thoughts on why this exhibition is needed by saying “Being a native of Palm Beach County, I feel it is necessary because art & culture has

always been lacking in my community.  I feel the need to show a presence of art especially black art.  The mission is to acquire new art collectors.  We provide different opportunities for people to want to attend. Not just an opening. A beginning, middle & an end.”

Speaking of art, A.T.B Artists& Designers LLC are notorious for only curating the best of the best works for their shows. This year features a collection of artists that were originally from, reside or represented in the state of Florida in one location here in Palm Beach County. Including the works of the iconic The Florida Highwaymen. Anthony explain what connects him to the artists they work with “Artists who show their God given gift is what draws me to the artists.  It doesn’t matter what their style or genre is, it only matters to me their passion for the art.”

Artist: Isaac Knight (Original Highwayman)

Artist: Ramel Jasir
“We want to be able to reach a variety of people and educate them our journey using art as the vehicle.  Art is a form of education.” Trina noted. Being on to be known as candid when asked what they wish people to take away from the exhibition she says “Honestly, a piece of art. Ha-ha.  But seriously, we want to people to walk away craving more. We want them to buy a piece, and then keep asking for more from that artist.  We also want people to know that though it an exhibition of artist of African Descent, we are quite diverse in our imagery.  For some reason, it is assumed that because we are “all black” we all create the same. However, we have many stories to tell.”
